January Garden Report

Our winter has been quite mild so far; not nearly enough rain and very little fog.

But the camellias are already blooming and their flowers carpet the ground like lost boutonnieres.

This cute little azalea is already blooming. I don't remember it from last year, but that's not surprising considering how many azaleas we have.
I'm trying to catalog them but it's quite a task since I didn't plant them and their tags are long gone.

These bergenia are booming too. The transplanted ones aren't, but I'm hoping they'll bloom again next year.

At the base of our biggest Valley Oak I found these gold mushrooms sprouting up. I wonder what kind they are. Hmmm, I used to have a mushroom book, but I have no idea where it is now. Anyone recognize them?

The clivia likes this cooler weather and has several new flowers. It's a huge clump and I think I'll try to divide it later this spring.

Even though January is cold and dreary, I can see hints of spring right around the corner. While I wait, I'm  working on a master garden plan, developing view lines, paved areas, and structures to organize and enhance this neglected garden.
